Fine example with 14 3/8” blade. The right side with beveled edge and the left, flat. Both with good light tool finish. Fine hard wood hilt and scabbard, both with mother of pearl inlay. The hilt with incised basket weave pattern and central panel with three MOP inlays. The scabbard of two pieces with pinned joints. The front with carved American Eagle, seal of the Philippines and foliage with basket weave bands over PHILIPPINES inlaid in mother of pearl letters. These were brought back by GI’s. Some from the market and some made as souvenirs. Very few have risen to the quality of this example, suggesting that it was a gift in appreciation for the liberation from the Japanese.
