WWII PACIFIC ISLANDS GI’S KNIFE

Native made in the Philippines. In the form of the Philippines national knife, the talibon.  9 3/4” crescent form blade, forged and tool finished. Wood hilt forms as a lotus bud. Wood scabbard made in two pieces with metal pinned seam. The face with relief clover motif, chip carved band and incised SAMAR. Samar is the third largest island in the Philippines. During The Battle off Samar, October 25, 1944, a small, unarmored force of United States Navy escorts fought off the center force of the Imperial Japanese Navy, including the Japanese battleship Yamato. These were given to GIs in thanks for liberation from the brutal Japanese occupation.
