20 7/8” length, comprised of eight rifle cartridge cases. The butt with an eagle and fouled anchor button and the tip with the bullet intact. Idle hours at sea encouraged the production of these craft items which were made from the materials at hand. The tradition dates back as far as man were at sea and varies only in detail, from trench art and prisoner of war art. This example shows a little surface degradation from age and handling and a single dent which appears to be a bullet impact.
