Forged iron just under 2" in length. A tour de force of the Viking blacksmith’s skill. The striking bar with double cusped back as typically found with the addition of a serpentine forged ribbon-like filler comprising 14 alternating loops. This decorative addition also provided enhanced grip (purchase) which was a concern as these were used extensively in the dark when dropping it could mean it was lost until morning at least and probably after that. Exceptional preservation with considerable original surface remaining.
