VIKING CHRISTIAN CROSS, 11TH CENTURY AD

Known as the Kievan cross, these were produced in the northeast Baltic hinterland (Kievan Rus), modern Ukraine, during the period of transition to Christianity. During the period and even before, the cross was embraced by Pagan Vikings as a decorative symbol. This example is 1.21” high plus the loop, gilt bronze. It displays 18 green enamel inlays, original and complete but for a few chips. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored, on an 18” gilt Sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
