See The American Sword, Peterson #53. Probably the most sought standard pattern American sword. This example is distinguished by its Civil War service and  government refurbishment in 1864 and reissue. 25 ¾” broad fullered blade marked with an anchor and P G G inspection marks indicating its inclusion in the 1864 refurbishment. The reverse, plain, and probably had Ames marks which are notoriously weak as applied, polished off in the refurbishment process. The hilt and grip are excellent with a few cuts/dents indicative of its service in action. A rare example from a subset of the most sought after Civil War issue sword.
