German import retailed by Horstmann, New York, as purchased by both sides at the beginning of the War. Standard pattern, Peterson #32 with three bar brass hilt showing mottled patina. Grip excellent, a little dry. Blade smooth with original cross polish, and HORSTMANN double struck on the ricasso. The surface with gray patina, three small nicks in the percussion area, and minor blemishes only. This pattern is much rarer than the 1860 cavalry saber.
