The finely chased hilt with virtually all of its heavy gold overlay. 30” s.e. blade decorated 2/3 its length with naval and patriotic motifs. The etching especially deep and crisp indicative of its early production. Gray patina with some oxidation towards the point as expected for use at sea. The generous gold overlay is another indicator of its early manufacture. May well have served the Great White Fleet.
