Type which served extensively in the Civil War as the military was comprised to a great extent of state militias. 25 3/4" straight d.e. blade finely decorated with foliage and arms splay one side, Indian princess and crossed arrows the other. The base with fine cursive W H Horstman & Sons / Philadelphia. Brass hilt with plumed helmet pommel. Fine reeded bone grip with single shallow surface flake. Original scabbard complete. The mounts with a few dings and the leather surface worn. Rarely encountered with military motifs and pedigree maker. Classic Civil War example as used by both sides. The Indian Princess with known Southern usage.
