16th-early 17th century, the period of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. Gilt bronze, with 4.0mm rounded face band expanded to the shoulders. The top half with bordered foliate decoration. Transverse stepped edge oval bezel with a broad beamed cross. Dating to the period of the Reformation when religion was, to say the least, a volatile cultural boiling point. See Ancient Rings, Pollio, p.128 bottom right for an example identical, but with floral bezel motif.
