Mahdist War (1885) period. 31 ¼” d.e. blade, triple fullered at the forte and single to the point. Surface textured as forged and likely made from a wagon tire or barrel hoop. Cruciform hilt with stacked brass and copper pommel, leather covered cylindrical grip and leather covered guard marked with Arabic ciphers one side and stars the other. Well-tooled leather scabbard with embossed copper tip mount and both suspension straps intact. Complete as made and very rarely found in that condition as their complex construction resulted in most decomposing through time. The Taureg supported and fought with the Mad Mahdi. Exceptional example.
