Mahdist period, C.1880s. 33 1/2” broad triple fullered blade. Cruciform guard with diamond section quillons and ridged flared langets. Leather wrapped grip and bun form pommel. Sound, complete and undamaged with gray patina to the blade and spotty color to the guard. Type produced for the Anglo-Sudanese War of 1885 when the Mad Mahdi rose against the British to purge Sudan of non-Muslims.
