Mahdist War of 1885. 7 1/8” curved d.e. blade etched with geometric Thuluth script and cabled motif panels, to the point, both sides. Etching crisp with fine contrast. Shaped bone grip with horn cap. The scabbard completely covered in black and white trade beads with blue and white lattice suspending 8 cowries which were imported and highly valued. Beadwork complete with minor distortions only. These daggers were worn by the Dervish followers of the Mahdi who were closest to him.
