Stone, near spherical, slightly oval. 2 ¾” diameter. Hand chipped by slaves with the tool marks clearly visible as pock marks. These were launched by ballistae, similar to large cross bows which fired both bolts (arrows) and stones. The stones were shaped to approximately spherical, for aerodynamic stability. Uniformity of weight, however, was most important as they were fired repeatedly with adjustments made between shots as necessary. This is an antipersonnel weapon, capable of delivering a fatal impact.
