The leather secured with the extension of the stitching. See Neumann p227, #22. These were used to carry large shot which was loaded with the ball (“buck and ball”) to increase the effectiveness of the load. Its slender form allowed it to be tucked in the belt or pouch. That it is not a shot container for fowling (shotgunning), is demonstrated by its very limited capacity. It would barely provide four to five charges for a shotgun but enough shot for perhaps 25 buck and ball loads. Wonderful untouched condition and complete
