Westward expansion following the Civil War period. 1860s. Custer period, Iron, probably made from a wagon wheel tire. Indian crafted with partially opened butted seam conical socket. Well forged with medial ridge one side and the other with just vestigial ridge, probably flattened when the other side was hammered. The edges tool sharpened. 4 1/2" length. Fine stable glossy patina.

Ex: Vietzen Collection, Indian Ridge Museum, Elyria Ohio and one of the two best in that collection.
