European or American. 35 ½” length, straight measure. Made of copper or brass with a very thin leather lace wrap which simulates “stacked leather” as used on dagger grips, whip handles etc.  If it was made of that material, it would be virtually ineffective as a weapon. As made however, it is ridged with the added effect of a steel bar concealed in the shaft!  It is detectable with a magnet and of course, adds considerably to the weight. The original brass tip is mounted with a rubber cap of considerable age if not original. The steel bar runs the full length of the shaft but not within the handle, thus putting the weight where it does the most good. The shaft is elegantly tapered making its construction that much more difficult. The surface is in excellent preservation with the covering completely intact. The only such example we have encountered.
