Standard US model 1860 made by J. E. Bleckmann, of Prussia (Germany). Bleckmann produced swords from 1808 to 1980. During the Civil War, they produced about 5000 cavalry sabers of which this one. It is believed that they were contracted by Ames to fill out Ames’ contract. 34 1/2” curved blade with the Bleckmann bow and arrow/B M mark to the ricasso. Leather blade seat intact. Smooth gray with no nicks. Brass hilt, unmarked. Wire wrapped lather covered grip. Iron scabbard with frosty brown surface.
