PRUSSIAN M.1889 OFFICER’S SWORD

The standard pattern is in excellent condition. The 31 3/4” double fullered blade with the A C S/scales mark of Alexander Coppel, noted sword maker of the period. Gilt hilt with folding side guard. Wire wrapped leather covered grip with gilt cipher of Kaiser Wilhelm I. This pattern was adopted the year after Kaiser Wilhelm II, the Hohenzollern heir assumed the throne of Prussia. Examples ordinarily have a crowned WII cipher on the grip. Nice clean complete example with considerable gold surface remaining in protected areas, particularly the inside of the guard.
