Forged iron in 5 pieces with 8 1/8” circular seat enclosing three spear point rests which finish as curled foot support legs. The center one extended with notched edge supporting a sliding spit rest. 19 ¾” length. Used to support a pot, pan, wafer maker or other device for cooking in a fireplace as was the custom for Pilgrims and early settlers. See Furniture Treasury, Nutting #3917. Stable encrusted surface. Very rare as, owing to their simplicity, nearly all were broken down and the metal reused.
