Greek, late 18th early 19th century, the period of decline of Ottoman control and ultimately, Greek independence. Cast bronze, 5 1/8” height including the crest on the hinged top. The front relief decorated with Athena, the Greek Goddess of War in helmet and clutching a spear representing the bounty of victory. The figure is flanked by two striped flags, each superimposed with a cross. The Greek flag, before and after independence is blue and white striped with a white cross in the corner. Excellent and tight.
