Jean de La Fontaine (1621–1695) was a French poet and fabulist, renowned for his Fables, a collection of short, moralistic tales often featuring anthropomorphic animals. His Fables (published from 1668 to 1694) drew inspiration from ancient sources like Aesop and Indian Panchatantra.
