Recently recovered in Germany. Bronze. 6 5/8" overall with tapered square section head and flattened rectangular section tang. Crisp condition throughout with most original finish including tool marks etc. with soft medium brown patina. Some isolated oxidation speckles throughout resulting in mottled green interspersed with the original finish. Interestingly, the tang in better preservation. Evidently the wood (now long gone) served to protect the bronze. Surely a water find as this degree of preservation in an excavation is highly unlikely. As good as they get.
