Gilt brass hilt with just traces of gilt remaining and good patina. The shell guard with eagle to the right. The reverse shell with an ordnance mark. Wire wrapped grip. 30” straight double fullered double edged blade based on the Italian rapier, in its original red blade seat. Blade shows smooth gray patina with a few small patched of black oxidation toward the point, typical for its age. A very capable fighting weapon dating to the period of consolidation after the fall of French rule under Napoleon.
