18th-early 19th century. Central India, probably Maratha, 31 ¾” curved wedge section blade shows distinct lineal patterning, possibly watered steel. Iron hilt made in two pieces with central seam evident. Tool finished with some bruising to the pommel edge. Probably from the arsenal disposals of the 1980-84 period when the maharajas were disenfranchised (1980) and sold their accumulated art and antiques. Exports of those goods were prohibited by law in 1984 which ended the practice. We were there in 1983 purchasing in volume.
