17th-18th century. Heavy fighting example with opposing crescent form bits decorated with silver koftgari as is the socket block. 20 3/8” length. The heavy haft of solid iron with forged end caps was probably wrapped in hide originally. This is a heavy horseman’s axe made to crush mail and plate armor, distinctly different from the more decorative examples of the 19th century.
