Ex: Gen. Harry Bandholtz collection which won first prize at the St. Louis Exposition in 1905. Displayed at the Monroe County Historical Museum, 2001-2. 65” length with a large flamboyant tool finish head with up curled base spurs. Iron socket showing lamination attesting to its wrought iron composition. Tapered haft with white metal inlay in a variety of patterns alternating with scorch decorated bands. Fine preservation for the period. Collected during the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902) at which time headhunting was still practiced. Compare to Metropolitan Museum #36.25.2046, ex: Stone collection, illustrated in Stone’s Glossary, fig 278 and which is of inferior quality and condition to this example.
