Iron with characteristic high pointed heel plate terminating in a three leaf clover. Pierced arched middle shank with six point rowel. Excavated condition with some original surfaces preserved. The shank length corresponds to the evolution of horse armor at the time as the point needed to reach beneath the crupper to contact the horse. With full development at the end of the 15th century, the shank is considerably longer. Only knights and noble or royal warriors rode armored horses.
