German or Swiss. 83 5/8” length. Large proportions with broad elegant axe blade and backswept top fluke struck with a crisp maker’s mark. Integral cheek straps with retainer band at the socket base above remnants of a tassel. Beaded edge wood haft slightly tapered through its length. Haft excellent for the period with spotty rubbed spots along the corners and a short shallow cut about two feet above the butt. The head with minor blemishes including forging lamination and small historic impacts. A fine example from the full plate armor period.
