Iron, 20 ½” length with crescent form ax bit and curved back spike. The bit pierced with an eight-point star based on the Wheel of Fortune, flanked by king’s heads. The edge pierced in a cable motif. The socket with matching king’s heads. The haft with a raised coat of arms each side over fleur de Lys. Spiral grip and double bearded face motif butt. Excellent preservation with glossy chocolate patina. Probably Victorian and representative of a type capable of breaching armor used both in central Europe and Eastern Europe against the Ottoman Turks. Fine display.
