Iron hilt with broad side rings, each with a rounded “sprung in” plate. Knuckle bow connected to the rings with a scroll bar each side. Mushroom form pommel and wire wrapped grip. 31” double edged blade chiseled with the Passau running wolf, north star, star cluster and transverse band each side. The hilt with good mottled patina throughout. The blade with much smooth surface uniformly interspersed with islands of pitting. That pattern of rusting is generally associated with blades which have been water soaked in a leather scabbard. A rare early sword with great age character.
