Type which preceded the glitter hilt examples popular in England and France through the Napoleonic Wars. Iron hilt. Plain oval guard. The grip, pommel and knuckle bow/cross guard all with patterns of flutes and facets. Originally polished bright, these would have provided a sparkle effect in sun or candle light. 31 1/8 hollow face triangular blade with hatched panels and scrolling foliage at the forte (rubbed). Blade quite crisp with light gray patina. Hilt with soft medium patina.
