Napoleonic period C.1800-10. 33 broad fullered curved blade. Brass hilt with four slot guard, the cross bars of opened circular form. Integral back strap and pommel. Chevron pattern copper wire wrapped grip. Blade with uniform medium pitting interspersed with pockmarks a little heavier. Guard with hair line cracks at the base. The forward portion ahead of the cross bars restored in its working life. Original grip wrap lacks about an inch in the middle. Type favored by Naval officers which could account for condition.
