Pattern identified by Neumann as 62.S. One piece cast brass hilt with ribbed grip, crested pommel and stirrup form guard with transverse quillon expansion and rounded junction of the cross guard with the knuckle bow. 24 wedge section s.e. blade, slightly curved marked GRENADIER on the left side in large letters. Hilt shows dark patina and light original sand finish from casting. Blade with spotty surface storage rust with some original finish showing through. Type used in the Revolutionary War and through the Napoleonic Wars.
