FRENCH CUIRASSIER’S BACKPLATE, EARLY 19TH CENTURY

Probably for a Napoleonic carabinier. Heavy iron (just under 7 pounds) with rolled edges. The surface sheathed in brass or copper. Left front side with impressed number 140. Lacking the waist straps, otherwise complete with original shoulder straps and untouched but for reinforcing of the shoulder strap leathers. The inside with original shellac surface.
