Pattern c.1850. Gilt brass hilt with an eagle on shield guard and spread-winged eagle pommel. Fine reeded bone grip. 27 7/8” d.e. blade in original leather blade seat. Black iron scabbard with eagle and star tip mount shows a little old sealing wax on the surface. Elegant pattern. This example in exceptional preservation with very near all its original gold to the guard, pommel and scabbard mount. The grip without the small chips as normally encountered and as made condition.  At the outbreak of the Civil War, the forces of the North and South were both comprised primarily of the state militias. This fine example could have served either side.
