Mauratania, Northwest Africa. Assanya cultural group. 6 1/8” medially ridged blade with brass encasement at the forte in the Spanish style. The blade is wrought iron with evidence of lamination. Fine hilt with brass guard, banded copper, and brass base, swelled ebony grip with matching laminated segment, and ebony swelling to the fine brass pommel. Blind stitched leather pommel. The association of these daggers with those produced in Southern Spain is unmistakable and traces back to their common Moorish roots. Fine quality and elegant form.
