A sweet serving dish, 10 1/8” diameter with low depressed center. Finely decorated throughout in deep relief work well worked in the round with engraved detail. The center with four fantasy peacocks with intertwined necks. The bevel in foliate tendrils and the broad rim in stylized foliage flanking double headed birds. Probably originally gilt. While work of this type is fairly common, the quality and advanced artistry of this example suggests use in a noble or royal home.
