Morocco, 18th century. 10 3/4" s.e. blade with narrow back fuller. The forte with laminated iron panels bound with inlaid silver bands engraved in line work top and bottom. The blade base engraved with stipple and line Christian cross each side. Mediterranean style iron bolster. The silver hilt from an 18th century small sword, probably Spanish, particularly flamboyant, with baroque fluting and foliage and likely taken in battle. Fine color and patina throughout. The blade with frosty gray finish. Silver with good detail on mottled ground. Worthy of museum display.
