Gilt bronze, shield-shaped, under 3/4" height. Of armorial form, these are thought to represent the targets at which knights rode in field events like the Landshuter Hochzeit. A series of targets were hung from iron loops and competing knights would ride with lances, attempting to dislodge as many shields as possible. This pendant may be a gift from such a knight to his lady. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored and suspended from a modern gilt neck chain. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
