Late 18th century, Napoleonic and Federal period. A rare example of Industrialism art which later, contributed to Impressionism. The top hand painted in an industrial scene, with a three story factory spewing smoke from twin stacks, and further buildings. In the foreground, a plowed field is juxtaposed. A common element was the smoke spewing stacks, often among familiar urban scenes. Black papier mache, 2 5/8”. Small damages as shown. A rare example of original pre Impressionist art.
