Articulated protection suspended from the backplate to protect the lower back and buttocks. Large example made of eight plates forming three articulated lames with rolled and roped lower edge and matching medial ridge to the upper plate. The upper lame in two plates and the lower two in three, with some working life repairs. The construction suggests that it was rebuilt either from an earlier armor or to accommodate a larger wearer than originally intended. 19 ¾” greatest dimension. A major element of period armor.
