This is a fine example of a British Infantry hanger for colonial service as was used extensively in the American Colonies. It has a 26 1/8” curved blade with a narrow back fuller, struck with the running fox mark of the Shotley Bridge sword makers. The hilt is brass with a fluted shell guard and fine hardwood grip. See Swords and Blades of the American Revolution, Neumann, 23.S for a virtually identical example.
