Saracen, 12th century AD. Forged iron, 2” (2.05”) length with thickened medal leaf shaped point on tapered tang. Specifically shaped to penetrate the mail armor of the Crusaders. The Saracens were the Islamic defenders of the Holy Land against whom the Crusaders fought. Dating to the Second and Third Crusades, the period of the capture of Jerusalem and, ultimately, its loss to Saladin, after nearly a century.
