Forged iron of small size to combat the lightly protected Saracen adversary. Just under 1 ¼” of truncated corner cubical form. See Arms and Armour of the Crusading Era, #226c for a similar decorated example. ¾” shaft hole for a short wood haft and retaining its very rare original end cap with integrally forged spike/wedge. These are descended from the small maces used in the ancient cultures including Egypt and may have been used for dispatching wounded enemy after battles.
