French and Indian Wars period. Elemental form with leaf shaped blade over baluster. Slightly tapered tang, threaded right up to the baluster and so made for use without a cross bar at the joint. That form favored by the French (see Neumann 115.PA) and copied by American colonists for use in colonial militias which relied heavily on pole rams as they were the most economical and readily available in the colonies. 10" total length. The base with much original polish. The upper half heavily pitted. Type which was called to service in the Revolution as well.
