Ames production dated 1864 with inspector’s initials JF. Made for the 1840 musicians sword, never mounted and the tang about 1/4” over long to allow for peening to the hilt. Evidently, an overrun and its relegation to surplus an indicator of the wind-down of the war at that time. The only such example we have encountered.
