Government issue with 11 ¾" sawback blade for bone cutting. The base marked U S 1864. Shaped two piece wood grip. Blade field sharpened as expected with one edge nick smoothed over. Owing to time restraints and the risk of infection, amputation was the standard remedy for limb wounds.
