Certainly for stick ball, an early hurley or predecessor to, the hurley, the stick used in hurling. 53" length, longer than present examples, but of identical form. Carved from wood with naturally agreeable form and grain. The butt with mushroom form terminal. Wonderful weathered age character. Likely store in an out building. Would date to the 18th century and very possibly earlier. Mounted with a leather thong for display in more recent years. While hurling evolved from one of the most fundamental recreational activities practiced for thousands of years, very little specific information is available about its evolutionary process and no typology for the clubs exists. A Celtic treasure.
