ANCIENT ROMAN HORSESHOE, 3rd-4th CENTURY AD

Forged iron just under 4 1/4” greatest dimension. 3/3 nail holes as survived through the early Medieval period. Distinct thickened edge. The plate-shaped to the face of the horse’s hoof. Well preserved with a single nail remaining. These were worn by chariot horses and have been recovered at known battle sites. There is some disagreement about the invention of the horseshoe with a minority opining that it was the druids, however, historians largely agree that it was the Romans. On Plexiglas display easel.
